New Delhi: NLC India Limited has joined hands with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) to set up a new joint venture company aimed at developing lignite-based thermal power projects and lignite mining in Rajasthan. The new company, named NLC Rajasthan Power Limited, was officially incorporated on June 2, 2025, with NLCIL receiving the Certificate of Incorporation the following day.

The equity structure of the joint venture gives NLC India a controlling 74 per cent stake, while RVUNL holds the remaining 26 per cent. The project has received approvals from the Ministry of Coal and concurrence from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) through a letter dated April 24, 2025.

As per the company’s filing to stock exchanges, “The objective of the JV is to develop, operate, and maintain lignite mines and lignite-based thermal power stations in Rajasthan.” The entity will be capitalised through a cash subscription to equity shares at a face value of ₹10 each.

With this move, NLC India is set to strengthen its footprint in the thermal power sector and lignite mining operations, aligning with its broader strategy to increase energy production capacities in collaboration with state utilities.
