Raipur: NMDC Steel Limited (NSL) has reached a significant production milestone, achieving one million tons of liquid steel within just one year of commencing operations at its state-of-the-art 3 MTPA steel plant in Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh.
The journey began on 12 August 2023, when NMDC Steel initiated the First Blow-In of the Blast Furnace at its Nagarnar facility. Since then, the plant has steadily advanced, producing a cumulative 1.5 million tons of hot metal by 21 July 2024. Notably, one million tons of hot metal were produced in a remarkable 226 days.
By 11 August 2024, NMDC Steel had successfully produced one million tons of liquid steel, further cementing its status as a rising force in the sector. Amitava Mukherjee, Chairman-Cum-Managing Director (Additional Charge) of NMDC Steel, praised the achievement, emphasising the company's commitment to operational excellence. "This milestone underscores our dedication and positions NMDC Steel Limited as a key player in the Indian steel industry. Our team's relentless efforts have been instrumental in reaching this landmark, and we are eager to maintain this momentum as we pursue our next goals."
Looking ahead, NMDC Steel is focused on its next target: producing one million tons of Hot Rolled (HR) Coils by 23 August 2024. This goal is particularly meaningful as it will coincide with the first anniversary of the plant's initial HR coil production.
"We are determined to achieve this next milestone by 23 August 2024," Mukherjee added. "With our cutting-edge mill and strategic proximity to the Bailadila iron ore mines, we have a competitive advantage in producing high-grade Hot Rolled steel, which will support critical sectors across the country." /BI
