NRL inaugurates first e-waste recycling plant in Northeast India

Guwahati: Northeast India has taken a significant step towards sustainable development with the inauguration of the region’s first e-waste recycling plant in Nathkuchi, Tihu, Assam. The plant, operated by Binbag Recycling Services Pvt. Ltd., was officially opened on 15 December 2024. This state-of-the-art facility marks a key milestone in e-waste management for the region.
 

The inauguration ceremony was led by Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, Managing Director of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), and included the presence of Dr. Arup Kumar Mishra, Chairman of the Pollution Control Board, Assam, and S.K. Barua, Executive Director of NEDFi. The plant was established with support from the NRL iDEATION Angel Fund, India’s first SEBI-registered Angel Fund in the oil and gas sector.
 

Through its iDEATION startup support program, NRL has empowered 66 startups from Northeast India, providing grant funding and equity investments to help transform innovative ideas into viable businesses. The Tihu plant, as part of this initiative, highlights NRL’s dedication to driving innovation, sustainability, and economic growth in the region.
 

This new facility is expected to play a pivotal role in the region’s circular economy, offering efficient e-waste management solutions while promoting environmental sustainability. The launch further strengthens NRL’s commitment to supporting green initiatives and fostering business opportunities in Northeast India.
