OCPL wins Tangaridhi North coal block in national auction

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Coal and Power Ltd. (OCPL), a joint venture between the Government of Odisha and OPGC, has become the first state-run entity to secure the Tangaridhi North coal block in Sundargarh district during the 12th tranche of coal auctions.

The auction was conducted by the Ministry of Coal and concluded through a competitive bidding process. This development marks an important step in the company’s growth path.

Officials said the Tangaridhi coal mine is a partially explored block with an estimated 1,100 million tonnes of G-13 grade reserves. Of this, around 400 million tonnes of high-quality coal are located within a depth of 410 metres. The reserves are expected to strengthen Odisha’s energy security and add momentum to the state’s economic progress.
