Om Prakash Sinha tapped to lead exploration at ONGC

New Delhi: Om Prakash Sinha, currently serving as Executive Director and Head of the Institute of Reservoir Studies in Ahmedabad, is set to take charge as Director (Exploration) at Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC). His name was recommended by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel during its meeting held on April 17.

Sinha was selected from a pool of 12 candidates who appeared for interviews. The candidate list included seven officials from ONGC, two from Oil India Limited, and one each from Pawan Hans Limited, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, and ONGC Videsh Limited.

Once appointed, Sinha will join the ONGC Board and oversee the company’s upstream operations. His role will include shaping the organisation’s exploration roadmap, boosting reserve replacement ratios, managing existing reservoirs, and driving production planning for new finds. He will also be tasked with advancing ONGC’s efforts in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

ONGC, a Maharatna public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, plays a central role in India’s oil and gas exploration landscape. With Sinha stepping into this leadership role, the company’s exploration strategy is expected to continue aligning with energy security goals and sustainability targets.
