Powergrid clears ₹705.51 cr projects for grid communication and disaster recovery

New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid) has approved two infrastructure projects worth ₹705.51 crore to strengthen national grid operations and build emergency response capabilities.

The company’s Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects gave its nod during a meeting held on September 26.

The first project, estimated at ₹209.68 crore, will set up a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communication system across all five regional grids—Northern, North Eastern, Southern, Western and Eastern. The project is targeted for commissioning by August 23, 2026, and aims to improve coordination and operational efficiency in managing power transmission networks.

The second project, with an outlay of ₹495.83 crore, involves the procurement of 20 sets (300 towers) of Emergency Restoration System (ERS) under the Make in India initiative. This system, scheduled to be commissioned by April 19, 2027, will enable faster restoration of transmission lines in the event of natural disasters or infrastructure failures.

Powergrid said the investments are part of its strategy to modernise power infrastructure, enhance reliability and encourage domestic manufacturing.
