SJVN synchronises first unit of Buxar thermal project with national grid

Shimla: SJVN Ltd has achieved a major milestone with the successful synchronisation of the first unit of its 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar. The 660 MW unit has been linked to the national grid, setting the stage for the commencement of the COD process.

“This achievement stands as a testament to the dedication and tireless efforts of our project team and all stakeholders. The project will play a significant role in meeting the growing energy demand of the nation while also driving sustained economic growth in Bihar,” said SJVN CMD Bhupender Gupta.

Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), SJVN, said, “The synchronization of the first unit of BTPP will enhance SJVN's total energy generation capacity and further strengthen its energy portfolio.”

The Buxar Thermal Power Project, located at Chausa in Buxar district, is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company. With an investment of Rs 13,756.56 crore, the project is based on supercritical technology to ensure higher efficiency and lower environmental impact. Once fully operational, the two 660 MW units are expected to generate 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually, with 85 per cent of the supply earmarked for Bihar.

The project is expected to boost power availability, help bridge peak-hour shortages, and contribute to the economic and social development of Bihar and the eastern region.
