New Delhi: The Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO) has appointed Uday Borwanker as its new Director General, effective 31st July 2024. An officer from the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) 1988 batch, Borwanker brings extensive experience in the production, operation, and maintenance of rolling stock, as well as managing large divisions.
Borwanker takes over from Ajay Kumar Rana, who retired recently. Before this appointment, Borwanker served as Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer in Western Railway. His career spans over three decades, during which he held various challenging positions in Central Railway, Western Railway, South East Central Railway, West Central Railway, RDSO, Railway Board, and on deputation in the Ministry of Mines and Maha Metro.
He has served as Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Nagpur Division) and Divisional Railway Manager (Bhopal Division), and has received extensive training at reputed institutes such as IIM Ahmedabad, ISB Hyderabad, Bocconi School of Management in Italy, and the University of Sciences in Graz, Austria. Borwanker is credited with achievements in environment management, quality control, and skill development.
RDSO, under the Ministry of Railways, functions as a technical adviser and consultant to the Railway Board, Zonal Railways, Railway Production Units, RITES, RailTel, and Ircon International, focusing on the design and standardisation of railway equipment and addressing issues related to railway construction, operations, and maintenance. /BI
