Jaipur: Hindustan Zinc, part of the Vedanta Group and a leading producer of zinc, lead and silver, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth ₹85 crore with the Rajasthan Heritage Authority (RHA) for the development of the Heritage Corridor at Poonchari ka Lautha in Deeg district. The agreement will run for three years and will be financed through Hindustan Zinc’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The project aims to restore historical landmarks and develop supporting infrastructure, including botanical gardens, improved facilities on the Parikrama Marg pilgrimage route, visitor accommodation, and dedicated walkways and complexes. The corridor is located in the Braj region, a culturally significant area that forms part of the Govardhan Hill pilgrimage circuit.

Onkar Singh Lakhawat, Chairman of the Rajasthan Heritage Authority, said, “Rajasthan is home to many of India’s priceless cultural and historical landmarks. This collaboration with Hindustan Zinc will help us preserve these treasures for future generations while also enhancing the tourism experience for visitors.”

Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, stated, “Heritage ties communities to their roots and strengthens local identity. At Hindustan Zinc, we are proud to partner with the Rajasthan Heritage Authority to revitalize cultural sites while developing infrastructure that benefits local communities and enhances visitor experiences.”

Beyond heritage restoration, the project is expected to encourage sustainable tourism, generate local employment and build regional pride. It is part of Hindustan Zinc’s wider social responsibility efforts, which also cover education, healthcare, women’s empowerment and environmental sustainability. By FY25, the company aims to reach over 23 lakh people in more than 2,300 villages, placing it among the top 10 CSR spenders in India.

Hindustan Zinc, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and one of the top five silver producers globally, holds a 77 percent share in India’s primary zinc market and serves customers in more than 40 countries. The company has been named the most sustainable metals and mining firm worldwide for two consecutive years by S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024. In 2025, it also became the first Indian company to join the International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM).

Through initiatives such as EcoZen, Asia’s first low-carbon zinc produced using renewable energy with a carbon footprint 75 percent lower than the global average, Hindustan Zinc has advanced its sustainability agenda. The company is water-positive and has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.
