Power sector CPSEs donate over Rs 22 crore to Uttarakhand to build back damages caused by floods; NTPC contributes Rs 8 crore

New Delhi: Power sector CPSEs (Central Public Sector Enterprises) have contributed over Rs 22 crore to Uttarakhand to build back the damages caused by floods in the month of October. NTPC has contributed Rs 8 crore, REC Rs 5 crore, PFC Rs 4 crore, PGCIL Rs 3.5 crore, NHPC Rs 1 crore, THDC Rs 50 lakh, and SJVN Rs 50 lakh.

Union Minister of Power RK Singh today presented a cheque of Rs 22.5 crore to Uttarakhand Minister of Disaster Management DS Rawat here with virtual presence of Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami. The Power Minister applauded the swift action taken by power sector CPSEs to support Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand witnessed unusually high and unprecedented rainfall in some places on October 17, 18, 2021, resulting in loss of lives and severe damage to infrastructure and public utilities in many districts. The power sector CPSEs, in their bid to stand united for restoration works in the flood hit Uttarakhand, contributed Rs 22,50,00,000 to the Uttar State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA), said an official statement.

Activities under the project will be for reconstruction or restoration work in 478 schools in eight districts -- Bageshwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri, Chamoli, Almora,  Champawat, and Pithoragarh, 28  health centres in five districts -- Almora, Champawat,  Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, and Pithoragarh. The project will be executed by USDMA from the financial support extended by power sector CPSEs under CSR, added the statement. /BI/
