Sarguja (Chhattisgarh): The life of police personnel is tough and quite demanding. They are not able to give time to their children and families due to the nature of the job. It is more difficult in case of women police officials. Many times they are not able to concentrate on their work as their minds are with their children at home. They have to leave their children at home to carry out their duties.
Bhavana Gupta, an IPS officer and SP, Surguja, started an initiative to take care of children of cops, especially women cops. She thought of establishing a day care centre for children of cops so that they can come to work without worrying about their children.
Setting an example of wonderful community policing, the Surguja Police, under the guidance of Bhavana Gupta established Sneh Chhaya Day Care Center. It was inaugurated by IGP Ajay Yadav.
In collaboration with experts, the day care was started in the female barrack of the police line. The space was redesigned as per the liking of children. From lodging to food to resources for education and entertainment, the center has all sorts of facilities.
The security of kids is the top priority. Trained caretakers have been kept hired. Running in two shifts, the center will have recreational activities to ensure all round development of children. The first shift will be from 9 am to 2 pm and second shift from 2 to 4 pm where they will be given training in Computers, dance and drawing.
The walls are painted with educational information and it is equipped with Smart TV, pantry and so on. Festivals are also celebrated within the center and it gives a chance to mingle with children and promote friendliness between seniors and juniors.
This day care center will allow women cops to come for work without worrying much about their children and their education. "As a mother, I know the challenges of working women. This initiative will certainly make their lives easier and release their mom guilt," says Bhavana Gupta.
