Patna: In a first, Bihar Police will establish a dedicated IT cadre to tackle the growing challenge of cybercrime and strengthen digital investigations. The new cadre will have posts ranging from ADG to constable, bringing in officers and personnel with technical expertise.
The IT cadre will focus exclusively on cases involving the use of the internet. It will deal with financial fraud, social media-related offences, hacking, phishing, and identity theft, ensuring faster and more specialised investigation. Officials said it will function on the lines of existing specialised units like STF, ATS, Vigilance, EOU, and CID.
To be part of the cadre, investigating officers will be required to have at least inspector rank, while other officers and constables will assist them. All members will be expected to have sound knowledge of internet and social media operations. In the initial phase, existing police personnel with IT qualifications will be inducted, followed by dedicated recruitment for the unit in the future.
Currently, lack of expertise and delays in obtaining information from digital platforms often allow offenders to evade police action. With the IT cadre in place, Bihar Police expects to secure timely access to online data, making cybercrime probes more effective and boosting public confidence in law enforcement.
