Hyderabad: In a move reflecting his open and people-centric approach, Hyderabad’s newly appointed Commissioner of Police, VC Sajjanar, IPS, has made himself directly accessible to citizens through social media platforms. Residents can now reach him on X (https://x.com/SajjanarVC) for personal grievances, while youngsters preferring other platforms can connect via Instagram (https://instagram.com/vcsajjanar_ips/).

Sajjanar, a 1996-batch IPS officer of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh cadre now serving in Telangana, took charge as the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, following a major reshuffle of IPS officers announced on September 26, 2025. He succeeds C V Anand, who has been transferred and posted as Special Chief Secretary to the Government, Home Department.

Known for his strong on-ground policing and direct communication style, Sajjanar’s latest initiative is aimed at ensuring accessibility and responsiveness in policing. The move aligns with his reputation for being approachable and action-oriented during his earlier tenure as Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad.

A native of Hubli, Karnataka, Sajjanar holds a commerce degree from JG College of Commerce, Hubli, and an MBA from Karnataka University, Dharwad. Over nearly three decades in service, he has held diverse and challenging assignments, beginning as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Jangaon, Warangal district, and Pulivendla in Cuddapah district.

As Superintendent of Police, he served in Nalgonda, Kadapa, Guntur, Warangal, and Medak districts and later led the Crime Investigation Department’s Economic Offences Wing. He also commanded the Organisation for Countering Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) and the 6th Battalion, Andhra Pradesh Special Police, at Mangalagiri.

Sajjanar came into the national spotlight for his role in several high-profile investigations, including the 2019 Disha rape and murder case, in which four accused were killed in an alleged encounter during his tenure as Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad. Earlier in his career, he led operations resulting in the gunning down of three suspects involved in a 1996 acid attack in Warangal.

He went on to serve as Deputy Inspector General and later Inspector General in the Intelligence Department until March 2018 before taking charge as the Cyberabad Police Commissioner. In 2021, he was appointed Managing Director of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, where he introduced several administrative reforms before his current posting.

With his new initiative to connect directly with citizens on digital platforms, Hyderabad’s new police chief appears set to blend technology, accessibility, and accountability in policing — a step that is likely to resonate strongly with the city’s tech-savvy population.
