Thanks to 'Nizaat' campaign, youths are giving up drugs in Rajnandgaon

Rajnandgaon: Thanks to the 'Nizaat' campaign, youths in Rajnandgaon are giving up drugs and other intoxicants. A brain child of Superintendent of Police (SP) Santosh Singh, 'Nizaat' focuses on a three-pronged approach – awareness creation, police action and counselling and rehabilitation of drug addicts. “The impact is really good. People are giving up drugs and the use of other intoxicants,” said Singh while talking to Bureaucrats India.

Rajnandgaon Police has undertaken a number of initiatives as a part of ‘Nizaat’ campaign where hoardings and banners are being put up at different locations in the district while wall paintings in rural areas encourage drug addicts to return to normal life for which they are extended all support by the District Police!

Apart from the use of social media platforms, songs, the District Police is also roping in social organizations and people’s representatives to organize events to make the public aware of repercussions of drugs on family, society and their health. “We have adopted a wholesome approach to address the problem of drugs in the district,” said Singh.

Under the ‘Nizaat’ campaign, the District Police in the past four months have registered 1154 cases under Excise Act and seized country-made and foreign liquor worth Rs 91,40,548 and arrested around 1200 people. Under the NDPS Act, ganja worth Rs 20,30,000 was seized during raids along with the arrest of those involved in the smuggling of contrabands. /BI/
