Raipur: In a bid to encourage civil service aspirations among the youth, the Chhattisgarh government has announced a financial incentive of ₹1 lakh for candidates from the state who clear the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) mains examination. The incentive will be disbursed under the 'Mayor Samman Nidhi' through the Mayor's Fund, the state government said in an official statement on April 29th, 2025.
Acting on the direction of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the Urban Administration Department has instructed municipal commissioners across the state to implement the scheme effectively. The initiative aims to acknowledge the hard work of aspirants and motivate a broader base of young candidates to pursue careers in the civil services.
“This incentive will not only honour the hard work of candidates but also awaken a spirit of enthusiasm and competition towards UPSC preparation among other youth. Our goal is to create a favourable and inspiring environment for civil services examinations in Chhattisgarh,” Chief Minister Sai stated.
The announcement comes shortly after the declaration of the UPSC 2024 results on April 22. This year, five candidates from Chhattisgarh successfully cleared the mains examination. Among them is Poorva Agarwal from Raipur, who secured an impressive rank of 65. Arpan Chopra from Mungeli achieved rank 313, followed by Mansi Jain from Jagdalpur at rank 444. Keshav Garg from Ambikapur secured rank 496, and Shachi Jaiswal obtained rank 654.
“These candidates, with their hard work and dedication, have not only achieved individual success but also brought pride to Chhattisgarh,” the statement added.
The move has been widely welcomed by educators and civil service mentors, who believe it will play a key role in bridging the participation gap from smaller states in India's premier administrative services. Aspirants and coaching centres across the state have also lauded the decision as a meaningful step toward building a culture of competitive excellence.
