New Delhi: In a major push to transform public education, the Delhi government has provisionally shortlisted 75 schools under its ambitious CM Shri Schools initiative, aimed at delivering cutting-edge, NEP 2020-aligned learning experiences. The move promises to usher in a new era of tech-integrated and environmentally conscious model schools across the capital.
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood confirmed that the schools are expected to become operational in the coming weeks, with preparations already in full swing.
“Most of the CM Shri Schools have been shortlisted. These schools will start functioning soon, and preparations to operationalise them are currently underway,” said Sood. He added that many of the shortlisted institutions are existing government schools being upgraded into state-of-the-art campuses.
Announced in the Delhi Budget 2025–26 by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the CM Shri Schools initiative mirrors the Centre’s PM Shri model and aims to deliver high-quality, National Education Policy (NEP) 2020-compliant education. A dedicated corpus of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the project.
The schools will be equipped with AI-enabled libraries, smart classrooms featuring Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), biometric attendance systems, and robotics labs to ignite STEM interest among students. Solar-powered and zero-waste campuses are also part of the sustainability-first approach, officials said.
Directorate of Education has already begun the recruitment process for teaching and leadership positions at these institutions.
Initially announced as a network of 60 schools in March 2025, the number was later increased to 75, with a promise to make them operational within a year.
The curriculum will follow NEP 2020 guidelines, offering holistic development through modern pedagogy, multilingual education, and skill-based learning. Each campus will house dedicated labs for science, languages, and computers, as well as fully renovated classrooms.
As Delhi sets the stage for its first batch of CM Shri Schools, the capital is poised to become a national leader in 21st-century public education.
