India and US launch TRUST initiative to advance tech collaboration

New Delhi: India and the US have launched the TRUST (Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technology) initiative to strengthen technological cooperation, particularly in AI infrastructure development. Announced in a joint statement by Prime Minister Modi and US President Trump, the initiative aims to position India as a global technology leader. A key focus is the creation of a comprehensive US-India roadmap to accelerate AI infrastructure by year-end. This collaboration seeks to address financing challenges and facilitate the deployment of large-scale US-origin AI infrastructure in India.

The initiative prioritises next-generation data centres and advanced AI applications, with both nations working on solutions to societal challenges while ensuring strong security measures. The partnership also includes collaboration in compute access and processor development for AI applications.

To expand cooperation beyond AI, the leaders introduced INDUS Innovation, a platform designed to build on the INDUS-X defence partnership model. This initiative will drive collaboration in space, energy, and emerging technologies, with the next INDUS-X summit scheduled for 2025.

Additionally, India and the US have committed to increasing production capacity for critical components, including semiconductors and pharmaceuticals, strengthening supply chain resilience and supporting long-term technological growth.
