New Delhi: In a milestone moment for the digital age, India has clinched a Guinness World Records title for the “Most pledges received for an AI responsibility campaign in 24 hours,” government sources and summit organisers announced on Wednesday. The record was confirmed at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, where a whopping 2,50,946 pledges were submitted during a nationwide campaign run between February 16 and 17.
Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who made the announcement, said the figure far exceeded the initial target of 5,000 pledges and reflected the public’s enthusiasm for responsible use of artificial intelligence. The pledges were gathered under the AI Responsibility Pledge campaign, an initiative of the government’s IndiaAI Mission in partnership with Intel India, aimed at promoting ethical, inclusive and accountable AI practices among citizens.
The pledge drive, launched digitally during the summit’s opening day, encouraged participants to commit to principles such as data privacy, transparency, fairness and combating misinformation before taking the formal pledge on the dedicated portal. Those who completed the pledge received a digital badge and access to AI learning pathways.
Addressing the media, Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for catalysing the campaign and said the remarkable turnout - particularly from students and young citizens - highlighted India’s growing awareness of ethical AI use. “This is truly a proud day for the country,” he said, adding that the exercise signified a broader journey towards building a trusted, human-centric AI ecosystem.
The India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled from February 16 to 20, has drawn global technology leaders, policymakers, researchers and industry stalwarts to New Delhi to discuss and shape future AI frameworks under the themes of People, Planet and Progress. The record-setting pledge campaign has become a signature citizen-engagement moment of the summit, spotlighting not just innovation but also responsibility as India positions itself at the forefront of responsible AI development.
