India leading global digital transformation, says Murugan at Web 3.0 Summit

New Delhi/Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken India’s digital vision to a new level, said Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Loganathan Murugan during a virtual interaction at the India Web 3.0 Summit held in Mumbai on October 30.

“Today India stands at a defining moment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken India’s digital vision to a new level. India is leading the tech world today,” Murugan said while speaking with Moneycontrol’s Managing Editor Nalin Mehta.

He said emerging technologies have strengthened several governance tools such as the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and the e-marketplace ecosystem, which have become key pillars of India’s digital infrastructure.

Murugan credited the country’s digital growth to the Prime Minister’s foresight and initiatives. “Some said implementing digital India’s vision won’t be possible because many people still don’t know how to use their mobile phones. But because of PM Modi’s vision, now people have adopted digital payments. I visited a rural area once where I was able to make payments through UPI,” he said.

He added that the digital transformation is taking place across the country, with widespread adoption in health, broadcasting, and other sectors. “The revolution has helped plug loopholes. Now if we send Rs 100, the beneficiaries receive full amount because of the digital mission,” he remarked.

Murugan noted that India’s progress in digitalisation has drawn global attention. “Digital mission, data and digitalisation is taking place in the country very rapidly and the government’s efforts have been acknowledged globally. We are now moving to the next level. IMF also acknowledged, saying India is becoming a leader in digital ecosystem,” he said.
