After Maitri Cycle Rally, BSF boost to India-Bangladesh ties through Swarnjayanti Shaurya Pradarshani Yatra

New Delhi: After the grand success of Maitri Cycle Rally, the Border Security Force (BSF) jawans have embarked on Swarnjayanti Saurya Pradarshini Yatra to commemorate 50 years of the Bangladesh Liberation War. Comprising six vehicles, the Yatra was flagged off on December 3, which entered the AOR North Bengal Frontier on Friday and reached BOP Hili of 61st BSF Battalion under SHQ Raiganj in Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal.

According to a spokesperson of the BSF, ‘Swarnjayanti Shaurya Pradarshani Yatra will cover a distance of 1200 km between Kolkata and Guwahati. It was flagged off from South Bengal Frontier Headquarters of BSF at Rajarhat on the fringes of Kolkata by YB Khurania, ADG, BSF Eastern Command, and Toufique Hasan, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata.

“The Swarnjayanti Shaurya Pradarshani Yatra will complete its journey in 18 days through West Bengal and Assam. The team will move to Frontier HQ Guwahati via Hili, Kishanganj, Siliguri and Changrabandha,” said the spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that on December 10, the Swarnjayanti Shaurya Pradarshani Yatra entered the AOR North Bengal Frontier and reached BOP Hili where a warm welcome was offered to them on behalf of Ravi Gandhi, Inspector General, BSF North Bengal, DIG SHQ BSF Raiganj and senior officers of BSF, civil dignitaries and troops.

Prominent local leaders, civil dignitaries, local population, school teachers and students witnessed the Swarnjayanti Shaurya Pradarshani. The children were offered to explore the latest defence technologies and equipment through a series of interactive displays, live demonstrations and were thrilled beyond their imagination. On this occasion, a movie show on the theme of 50th anniversary of Bangladesh Liberation War and the role played by the BSF, weapon display and colourful cultural programme were also shown.

It is worth mentioning that the 70-day-long ‘Maitri Cycle Rally’ of the BSF organized to commemorate the 50th year of the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war victory covering a distance of around 4,000-km along the frontiers of five Indian states was also a grand success.

The ‘Maitri Cycle Rally’ comprised 13 cyclists of BSF and began on January 10 from Panitar Border Out Post (BOP) in South Bengal and ended at Silkore BOP in western Mizoram on March 17, 2021, a day coinciding with the celebrations of 101st birth anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, also called the ‘Father of the Nation’ in Bangladesh.
