Amit Shah inaugurates 59th DGsP/IGsP conference in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneshwar: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated the 59th DGsP/IGsP Conference 2024 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the proceedings on the second and third days of the conference. Held in a hybrid format, the event is being attended in person by DGsP and IGsP from all states and union territories, along with heads of CAPFs and CPOs, while officers of various ranks are joining virtually from across the country. The National Security Advisor, Ministers of State for Home, and Union Home Secretary are also participating in the discussions.
 

On this occasion, Amit Shah presented Police Medals for Meritorious Service to officers of the Intelligence Bureau and launched the Ministry of Home Affairs’ book on the ‘Ranking of Police Stations 2024’. He also presented trophies to the three best police stations.
 

In his inaugural address, Amit Shah commended the police leadership for ensuring the smooth conduct of the General Elections 2024 and for successfully implementing the three newly introduced criminal laws. He expressed satisfaction with the improved security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the North-East, and areas affected by left-wing extremism.


 

Shah stated that the three new criminal laws have brought a transformative shift in the ethos of the country’s criminal justice system, moving from a punishment-oriented approach to a justice-oriented framework. He emphasised that these laws are deeply rooted in Indian traditions.
 

The Home Minister highlighted the role of the security establishment in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047 and the goal of becoming the third-largest global economy by 2027. He called for a concentrated focus on emerging security challenges along the eastern border, issues related to immigration, and urban policing trends. He urged the police leadership to adopt a zero-tolerance strategy and implement it through decisive action.
 

Over the next two days, the conference will see the country’s top police leadership outlining a roadmap to address existing and emerging national security challenges. Key topics include left-wing extremism, coastal security, narcotics control, cybercrime, and economic security. Discussions will also review the implementation of the new criminal laws and explore innovative initiatives and best practices in policing.
