Bharat Taxi ties up with Paytm to expand UPI-based ride payments

New Delhi: Bharat Taxi has entered into a partnership with Paytm to strengthen its digital payment ecosystem by enabling UPI-based transactions for ride bookings. The collaboration has been formalised through a memorandum of understanding and is aimed at making payments smoother for both passengers and drivers on the platform.

With Paytm’s integration, customers will be able to complete payments directly within the Bharat Taxi app or use multiple Paytm-enabled options, including QR codes and card machines. The partnership is also expected to simplify the onboarding process for drivers, reinforcing Bharat Taxi’s focus on building a driver-friendly platform.

Beyond payments, the association will support services such as insurance and other benefits for drivers. Bharat Taxi follows a commission-free structure that allows drivers to retain 100 percent of their fare earnings. Instead of commission, drivers pay a nominal platform access fee of about Rs 30 per day. This approach sets it apart from larger ride-hailing players such as Uber and Ola, which follow commission-based models.

The Paytm integration is also expected to improve affordability for riders. Bharat Taxi has stated that surge pricing will not apply on its platform, positioning it as a lower-cost alternative in the market. A Bharat Taxi mini app within Paytm will further enhance the service’s visibility among users. Customers will have access to a range of options including AC and non-AC cabs, auto-rickshaws and bike taxis.

In recent months, Bharat Taxi has taken steps to strengthen its presence and safety framework. It has worked with the Airports Authority of India to offer fixed-fare, surge-free taxi services at airports. The platform also provides safety features such as a dedicated helpline and has coordinated with local police to set up 35 special booths to handle passenger issues. Driver verification remains a mandatory process to ensure secure travel for users.

Bharat Taxi, a government-supported ride-hailing service, was made available to the public in select cities including New Delhi after a beta phase that began late last year. The official launch took place on February 5, 2026, with Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah presiding over the event. Operating on a cooperative model, the service refers to its drivers as Sarathis and aims to give them greater dignity and ownership in their work.

As it expands to more cities, Bharat Taxi plans to focus on balancing customer convenience with driver welfare, positioning itself as an alternative ride-hailing model in a competitive market.
