Department of Financial Services (DFS) launches Swachhata Hi Seva - 2024

New Delhi: The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, launched the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign in New Delhi on September 17, 2024.

Nagaraju Maddirala, Secretary (DFS), administered the Swachhata Pledge to the heads of PSBs, PSICs, PSFIs, RRBs, and senior officers of DFS and its attached offices during a VC meeting. All nodal officers of financial institutions and SLBC/UTLBC convenors also participated in the launch programme.

The campaign is part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat Mission, initiated in 2014, as a campaign for behavioural change towards cleanliness in the country. "Swabhav Swachhta Sanskar Swachhata" is the theme for this year.

The commitment to the campaign goals and the intent to make the campaign wider and deeper were emphasised by taking the pledge. 120 organisations of DFS and more than 86,000 branches of financial institutions are expected to participate in the campaign.

The planned events between 17th September and 2nd October 2024 include the transformation of black spots (unattended garbage dump areas), a plantation drive (Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam), identification and cleanliness of CTUs, Nukkad Natak, outreach programmes for enrolling Safai Mitras into government schemes, and exhibitions on swachhata themes in each office/branch. Events will be geographically mapped on the dedicated Swachhata Hi Seva portal so that citizens can join programmes near them.

To raise awareness on ways to keep premises clean, DFS has requested all organisations to set up exhibitions on the themes of waste segregation at source, recycling techniques, and composting at more than 86,000 branches. NABARD and RRBs have also been requested to organise Nukkad Natak across the country on the themes of swachhata and financial literacy.

To enhance the impact of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, all branches have been requested to organise plantation drives and set up outreach programmes for the enrolment of Safai Mitras into government schemes.

Lead District Managers across all districts have been requested to identify and map black spots and transform them in a timely manner during the campaign period, along with other planned events in their districts. It is planned to transform at least five black spots in each district with the efforts of bankers, volunteers, and citizens.

More than 6,200 events have already been created on the SHS Portal by the field functionaries of PSBs, PSICs, and other public sector financial institutions. These events are classified into 40 listed categories, covering 36 states and union territories of the country. /BI
