New Delhi: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an advisory directing news channels to refrain from broadcasting live coverage of defence operations and movement of security forces. The advisory, aimed at safeguarding national security, comes in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, where 26 tourists were killed by terrorists, including three linked to Pakistan.
Amid heightened security concerns, intelligence agencies have identified 14 local terrorists operating across Jammu and Kashmir. These individuals, aged between 20 and 40 years, are reportedly assisting foreign terrorists from Pakistan by providing logistical support. They are affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Among those identified is Dentoo, Sopore district commander for LeT since 2021. Asif Ahmed Sheikh, linked to JeM, leads operations in Awantipora, while Ahsan Ahmed Sheikh (LeT), Haris Nazir (LeT), and Aamir Nazir Wani (JeM) are active in Pulwama. Yawar Ahmed Bhat, associated with JeM, has also been operating in Pulwama since 2024.
From Shopian district, Asif Ahmed Khanday has been active in Hizbul Mujahideen since 2015. Other names include Naseer Ahmed Wani and Shahid Ahmed Kutay (both linked to LeT and TRF), along with Aamir Ahmed Dar and Adnan Safi Dar who are aiding LeT and its proxy TRF.
In Anantnag, Zubair Ahmed Wani, also known as Abu Ubaida or Usman, serves as the operational commander of Hizbul Mujahideen and has been involved in attacks since 2018. Haroon Rashid Ganai, another Hizbul Mujahideen operative, had undergone training in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and returned to South Kashmir recently. Zubair Ahmed Gani from Kulgam is also actively involved in targeted killings and attacks against security forces.
Security agencies have launched intensified operations across South Kashmir, focusing on districts such as Anantnag and Pulwama. Officials indicate that the list of terrorists forms part of a wider intelligence effort to pre-empt further attacks and disrupt the support networks aiding cross-border terrorism.
