New Delhi: In its significant bureaucratic reshuffle of its third term, the Narendra Modi government announced several key appointments on Friday, including new secretaries for expenditure, banking, corporate affairs, and defense.

 

Manoj Govil, a 1991 Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has been named the new Secretary in the Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance.

 

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) also approved the appointment of Nagaraju Maddirala, a 1993 batch IAS officer from the Tripura cadre, as the new Secretary in the Department of Financial Services (DFS). He will succeed Vivek Joshi, a 1989 Haryana cadre IAS officer, who has been reassigned as Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training.

 

The post of Expenditure Secretary was left vacant following the appointment of T V Somanathan, a 1987 Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, as the next Cabinet Secretary. Somanathan, a seasoned bureaucrat, will assume this top role on August 30, after the current Cabinet Secretary, Rajiv Gauba, completes his extended tenure.

 

Deepti Gaur Mukherjee, a 1993 Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer and the current CEO of the National Health Authority, has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).

 

Additionally, RK Singh, a 1991 Kerala cadre IAS officer, has been appointed as the new Defence Secretary. Meanwhile, K Srinivas, a 1989 Gujarat cadre officer, has been named the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, transitioning from his current role as Minority Affairs Secretary.

 

Punya Salila Srivastava will take over as the next Health Secretary following the retirement of Apurva Chandra on September 30, 2024. Lastly, Sanjeev Kumar, a 1993 Maharashtra cadre IAS officer and current Chairman of the Airports Authority of India, has been appointed as Secretary of the Department of Defence Production by the ACC. /BI/
