New Delhi: The country marked the 10th Defence Forces Veterans’ Day on January 14, 2026, with veterans’ rallies, wreath laying ceremonies, grievance redressal counters and facilitation help desks organised across India.
Addressing the gathering, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the valour, sacrifices and service of ex-servicemen, calling them the living pillars of national consciousness and an inspiration for future generations. He urged veterans to guide the youth, mentor Agniveers and support civil administration during emergencies.
“Today, India is rapidly moving towards becoming a strong, self-reliant, and developed nation. At such a time, the experience, leadership, and values of veterans are invaluable assets to the country,” he said. The Raksha Mantri also remembered ex-servicemen who served with the Indian Peacekeeping Force during Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka nearly 40 years ago, noting that the PM Modi-led government is recognising their contributions at national memorials.
Rajnath Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to veterans’ welfare, citing initiatives such as One Rank One Pension and the expansion of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme. Veterans’ Day was observed across multiple cities, with Rajya and Zila Sainik Boards organising events and help desks to provide on-the-spot assistance and grievance redressal.
