New Delhi: The Ministry of Women and Child Development will mark the beginning of the 8th edition of Poshan Pakhwada from April 9 to April 23, 2026, with a national launch event scheduled in New Delhi. The initiative continues the government’s focus on improving nutrition outcomes across the country.

Highlighting the importance of nutrition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “A well-nourished child is the foundation of a strong nation. Poshan Abhiyaan is not just a government programme, but a people’s movement to ensure holistic nutrition for every mother and child.”

The national launch will be held on April 9 from 3 pm to 4 pm at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. The event will be led by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi, along with Minister of State Savitri Thakur and Secretary Anil Malik.

This year’s theme, “Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life”, focuses on the critical role of early childhood in shaping cognitive and physical growth. Research shows that over 85 percent of brain development takes place by the age of six, making proper nutrition, early learning, and responsive caregiving essential during this period.

The campaign will focus on several key areas, including maternal and child nutrition, early stimulation for children aged 0 to 3 years, and play-based education for children between 3 and 6 years. It will also encourage parents and communities to reduce screen time for young children and promote active engagement. Strengthening Anganwadi centres through community participation and CSR efforts will also be a priority.

The inaugural programme will feature best practices from states and Union Territories, along with the launch of new initiatives. It will also recognise the efforts of frontline workers, especially Anganwadi workers, who play a central role in delivering nutrition and early childhood services.

The event will be broadcast live on the NIC webcast platform and the Ministry’s YouTube channel.

Throughout the two-week campaign, activities will be conducted across states and Union Territories through Anganwadi centres. These will include Poshan Panchayats, awareness sessions, early stimulation exercises, and play-based learning initiatives. Community participation from families, caregivers, and local institutions will be encouraged to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce screen exposure among children.

Poshan Pakhwada remains a key component of Poshan Abhiyaan, the government’s flagship mission to improve nutrition outcomes. Over the years, it has grown into a nationwide movement aimed at raising awareness, driving behavioural change, and building community participation towards a malnutrition-free India.
