New Delhi: Signalling the growing importance of public sector enterprises in India’s economic roadmap, President Droupadi Murmu today conferred the SCOPE Eminence Awards in New Delhi. The honours, instituted by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) with support from the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Ministry of Finance, recognised Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) for their role in driving growth, employment and competitiveness in an evolving economic landscape.

The ceremony was attended by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, DPE Secretary K. Moses Chalai, along with K. P. Mahadevaswamy, Chairman, SCOPE, and Atul Sobti, Director General, SCOPE. Senior government officials, CPSE leadership, and international partners also participated.

President Murmu underlined that CPSEs have emerged as powerful vehicles of economic growth and social inclusion, with their performance spanning innovation, sustainability, corporate governance and women empowerment. She expressed confidence that they will be crucial in achieving the national ambition of building a developed India by 2047, while contributing to flagship programmes such as Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India.

Adding to this, DPE Secretary K Moses Chalai stressed the dual role of the public sector in nation-building and economic development, pointing out that CPSEs directly employ nearly 15 lakh people and support millions more indirectly. He said the new operating environment demands constant competitiveness under a “perform or perish” ethos.

The SCOPE Eminence Awards highlighted best practices across multiple dimensions including sustainability, CSR, innovation and governance — reaffirming the central role of the public sector in India’s growth story.
