New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bengaluru, on Wednesday for the procurement of 149 Software Defined Radios for the Indian Coast Guard at a total cost of ₹1220.12 crore under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.
These advanced radios will enable secure and reliable information sharing, collaboration, and situational awareness through high-speed data and secure voice communication. They will enhance the Indian Coast Guard’s capability in maritime law enforcement, search and rescue operations, fisheries protection, and marine environment protection. The new communication systems will also improve interoperability for joint operations with the Indian Navy.
This initiative strengthens the Coast Guard’s operational readiness and supports the government’s Blue Economy objectives by reinforcing maritime security. Aligned with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the contract will boost domestic manufacturing of advanced military-grade communication systems, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the development of indigenous expertise in defence technology.
