New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated the Sardar Dham Girls Hostel Phase-2 in Ahmedabad through video conferencing from New Delhi. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and several dignitaries were present at the event in Ahmedabad.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said the initiative would play a vital role in enabling thousands of young women to pursue education and careers. He lauded the Sardar Dham Trust for raising Rs 200 crore and providing guidance, housing, and support to students across the state.
Built at a cost of around Rs 200 crore, the hostel can accommodate 3,000 students and has been developed on 10,000 square yards, with a built-up area of 6.32 lakh square feet. The 12-storey complex comprises 440 rooms, two basements, and facilities such as a library, e-library, and reading rooms. The hostel will provide accommodation to meritorious students at a symbolic annual fee of just Rs.1
Highlighting the significance of the project, Shah said the facility would especially benefit students preparing for civil services, defence, judicial services, and other competitive exams. The Sardar Dham Trust has so far trained 52,000 candidates and now aims to train 10,000 more aspirants for UPSC, GPSC, defence, and judicial services.
He added that the Trust’s upcoming 10-year plan, with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, includes a training institute for 10,000 students, residential complexes, and major initiatives like the Global Patidar Business Summit and Global Patidar Youth Organization.
Shah praised the Patidar community for its contribution to Gujarat’s growth, particularly in education, trade, agriculture, and social welfare. He noted that the community has carried forward the legacy of Bhamashah by investing in initiatives that uplift society.
Recalling the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Shah said India’s unity would not have been possible without him, and his legacy continues to inspire generations. He assured full support from the central and state governments to the Sardar Dham Trust and extended best wishes for its future projects.
