BSPHCL records 35 pc increase in revenue collection during FY 2022-23

Patna: Backed by the adoption of state of the art technology and massive revenue collection drive, Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) recorded a 35 per cent increase in revenue collection in the financial year 2022-2023.

As compared to fiscal 2021-2022, the Holding Company collected Rs 4,527 crore more revenue amounting to Rs 17,315 crore. In the financial year 2021-2022, BSPHCL had collected Rs 12,788 crore.

Bihar Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, while congratulating the entire team for the feat, said, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, we have brought several changes and stepped up the revenue collection drive that resulted in strong results.”

Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD), BSPHCL, Sanjeev Hans while congratulating the Managing Directors of two DISCOMs – North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited – and entire team, said, “Our concerted team effort has resulted in scaling up of revenue collection. We have leveraged technology to track the collection drives and revenue.”

Notably, both the DISCOMs throughout the year had been focussing on stepping up revenue collection. Several rounds of revenue collection drives were launched and also the defaulters were penalised. The CMD said, “We are taking action against those indulging in electricity theft.” He said while the collection from consumers was Rs 13,243 crore besides Rs 4,072 crore was collected by selling power to Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) and other sources.

“Under the guidance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Bihar Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, we have brought several reformatory measures that are yielding results now,” Hans said.

The CMD said on intervention of Chief Secretary Shri Amir Subhani, Rs 1,282 crore was collected from more than 50 per cent Government Departments. “Alone from Urban Development and Housing; Health; Education; Water Resources and Industries Departments; Rs 813 crore was collected,” he said.

Detailing the plan for expediting the Smart Prepaid Meter installations for consolidation of revenue collection, he said, “Smart Prepaid Meters have been installed in 72% urban areas, while we are stepping up our effort to cover the remaining areas.”

Bihar has installed about 13.5 lakh Smart Prepaid Meters, which also include both the urban and rural areas. The smart meters are helping the BSPHCL to firm up its revenue, as there are no more hassles of wrong meter reading or delay in payment of bills from the consumers’ end.

BSPHCL is generating awareness among consumers to pay regular electricity bills through its social media handles. Throughout the March the revenue collection drive was intensified and messages posted through social media to sensitise the consumers.
