Mumbai: In a nationwide campaign towards a sustainable greener planet, Maharatna oil and gas CPSE, HPCL planted more than 15000 saplings and trees during the iconic week celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. On this occasion, Director Finance and Director, HR, Rajneesh Narang along with EDs and senior officials planted saplings at HP Nagar East and WesColonies of Mumbai.
The campaign was taken forward enthusiastically by SBUs and Departments across the length and breadth of the country through plantation of more than 15000 saplings and trees against an earlier commitment of 4000 saplings and trees. This was committed so that CPSEs together may plant more than 75000 saplings and trees during the iconic week.
In years to come this plantation drive by HPCL will lead to absorption of close to 225 to 600 tons of CO 2 per year, as a tree normally absorbs between 10 and 40 Kgs of CO 2 per year on an average. Human activities are altering the carbon cycle–both by adding more CO 2 to the atmosphere and by influencing the ability of forests and soils, to remove and store CO 2 from the atmosphere. /BI/
