IRCTC warns users against fake app, phishing scam

New Delhi: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has issued a public advisory against fake apps. It has warned and urged consumers to remain vigilant and not download a suspicious android application called ‘irctcconnect.apk.' The information about this app is being shared with consumers through WhatsApp and Telegram. It has warned that these APK files are harmful and can infect the individual’s mobile phone, if installed and can also lead to leakage of sensitive data and information. It also tries to get your personal and UPI details. Cyber frauds are circulating the phishing link on a mass level. They are falsely impersonating IRCTC officials to lure users to download the application.

The IRCTC instead advised consumers to download ‘IRCTC Rail Connect App' from Google Play Store or Apple Store. The application has features like one-step login to existing consumers; functionality to search, book, cancel tickets, check the ticket status and ticket refund status, among others.

They have warned users that IRCTC never requests personal identification numbers such as PIN, OTP, credit card number, bank account number over the mobile phone. It has requested users to be extra vigilant and report any such suspicious activity to the relevant authorities immediately. /BI/
