Bhubaneswar: NLC India Limited's renewable energy arm, NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), has entered into a joint venture with Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) to develop up to 1 GW of green energy projects in Odisha during the first phase of collaboration.
The agreement was signed on June 23, laying the foundation for a partnership focused on expanding renewable energy infrastructure in the state. The proposed projects will be taken up after assessing techno-commercial viability and obtaining approvals from the concerned authorities, including government bodies and the Ministry of Coal.
Apart from the initial 1 GW capacity, the joint venture has been tasked with developing, operating and maintaining renewable energy assets across Odisha. The scope of work also includes pursuing opportunities in related green energy sectors through forward and backward integration.
The agreement was signed by Devendra Pratap Singh, Chief Executive Officer of NIRL, and Saidutta Biplab Keshari Pradhan, CEO of OREDA and Special Secretary in Odisha's Department of Energy.
The signing ceremony was attended by Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, OREDA Chairman Vishal Kumar Dev, who also serves as Additional Chief Secretary in the Department of Energy, NLCIL Director (Finance) Prasanna Kumar Acharya, and senior officials from both organisations.
The partnership forms part of NLCIL's broader strategy to expand its clean energy portfolio beyond conventional power generation. NIRL, a wholly owned subsidiary of NLCIL, is currently pursuing projects across solar, wind, pumped hydro storage, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), green hydrogen, waste-to-energy and low-carbon power solutions.
Speaking on the occasion, NLCIL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Prasanna Kumar Motupalli said the partnership with OREDA marked a significant milestone in the company's strategic diversification into clean and sustainable energy, and emphasised the development of renewable energy projects across technologies, including solar, wind, hybrid, BESS, pumped hydro storage, green hydrogen and any new renewable energy technology that may emerge in the future.
NLCIL said the collaboration is expected to support the growth of Odisha's renewable energy sector while contributing to India's clean energy and carbon reduction objectives.
