1986 batch IPS officer Sheel Vardhan Singh appointed DG CISF, Atul Karwal DG NDRF

New Delhi: The 1986 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre Sheel Vardhan Singh has been appointed Director General (DG) of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which came into existence in 1969 to provide integrated security cover to certain sensitive public sector undertakings with strength of only three battalions.

The force has since grown into a premier multi-skilled organization with a present strength of 1,63,590 personnel. The CISF at present provides security cover to 352 establishments through the length and breadth of the country. The CISF also has its own Fire Wing which provides services to 104 establishments.

Atul Karwal, a 1988 batch officer of Gujarat cadre, has been appointed DG of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the largest singular and specialized disaster response force in the world. The brave-hearts of NDRF always led from the front, displaying a high level of dedication, sincerity, professionalism and devotion. NDRF, also referred to as the ‘Angels in Disaster,’ has rescued over 1.15 lakh precious human lives and also evacuated over 5.8 lakh stranded persons during various operations within the country and abroad in just over a decade.

According to an official note, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs to appoint Singh to the post of DG, CISF in Level-17 of the pay matrix from the date of joining the post and up to 31.08.2023, that is, the date of his superannuation or till further orders whichever is earlier.

Karwal, presently working as Director, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad, has been appointed as the Director General of NDRF by temporarily upgrading the post to the level of DG for a period of two years. He will replace IPS officer SN Pradhan as its chief. /BI/
