Anuradha Prasad takes charge as UPSC Member

New Delhi: Anuradha Prasad, a 1986-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), assumed charge as Member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday. She took the oath of office and secrecy administered by Lt. Gen. Raj Shukla (Retd.), the seniormost Member of the Commission.

With over 37 years of service in public administration, Prasad has held key positions across several Union Ministries including Defence, Finance, Food Processing Industries, Labour & Employment, and Home Affairs.

An alumna of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, she holds a Master’s in History from the University of Delhi and a second Master’s in Development Administration from the University of Birmingham, UK.

Her career includes overseeing major defence platform acquisitions, managing financial operations for Defence Services, and leading initiatives in the food processing sector. She has also served on regulatory bodies such as the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).

In the Labour Ministry, she contributed to the drafting of Labour Codes and played a key role in the creation of the e-Shram portal. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led health and welfare efforts as Director General of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). In her final posting as Secretary, Inter State Council Secretariat, Ministry of Home Affairs, she focused on strengthening Centre-State relations.

Post-retirement, she served as Member of the Police Complaints Authority under the Government of NCT of Delhi.
