May 25, 2021

New Delhi: Senior IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre Subodh Kumar Jaiswal has taken over as the new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after his name was cleared by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). Jaiswal is an IPS officer of 1985 batch.

The order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training reads: “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has, based on the panel recommended by the Committee, approved the appointment of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, IPS, (Maharashtra 1985) as Director, CBI for a period of two years from the date of assumption of the charge of the office or until further orders whichever is earlier.”

It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-headed Committee comprising Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had discussed the names of the new CBI chiefs. Jaiswal, who was the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), was considered the front runner for the post.

He also has served as Maharashtra’s Director General of Police and has a stint in India’s external intelligence agency, R&AW. The CBI had got an acting Director in the form of Praveen Sinha, a 1988 batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, after the term of RK Shukla ended on February 3 this year. /BI/
