Sanjay Garg takes charge as Director General of Bureau of Indian Standards

New Delhi: Sanjay Garg, a senior IAS officer of the 1994 batch from the Kerala cadre, has assumed charge as the Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India, with effect from 1 November 2025.

With over three decades of administrative experience, Garg has worked across diverse sectors including agriculture, food logistics, defence industry, industrial promotion, finance, and social welfare. His expertise lies in strategic planning, policy formulation, and implementation at both State and National levels.

Before joining BIS, he served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Agriculture, Research and Education (DARE) and Secretary of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). In these roles, he led several digital initiatives, including the use of IT in research management and administration. He also played a key role in expanding the Kisan Sarathi portal, which connects farmers directly to agricultural scientists.

Garg has previously been involved in managing World Bank projects in India and in policy measures related to the promotion and deregulation of the defence industry sector. His work has also contributed to the promotion of various industrial initiatives, including those related to the leather industry.

As Director General of BIS, he will also serve as the President of India’s national committee in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
