Senior IPS officer Utkal Ranjan Sahoo takes over as DGP Rajasthan

Jaipur: Senior IPS officer Utkal Ranjan Sahoo, Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Rajasthan. Sahoo's tenure spans two years or until further directives. Before assuming this role, he was given the additional charge of DGP following the voluntary retirement of IPS officer Umesh Mishra on December 30, 2023. Alongside his additional charge as DGP, Sahoo served as the Director General & Commandant General of the Rajasthan Home Guards.

Having started his career as an Assistant SP in Jodhpur (East) in 1991, he has previously served as SP in Banswara, Bhilwara, Sikar, Hanumangarh, Dholpur, and Sriganganagar. He also held the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Jaipur.

Hailing from Odisha, Sahoo pursued an M.Tech in engineering geology before embarking on his journey in the Indian Police Services. Sahoo's contributions to law enforcement have been recognized with accolades such as the President's Police Medal on January 26, 2017, and the Police Medal on August 15, 2005. /BI/
