
New Delhi: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment, and the Department of Personnel and Training issued the official order on Saturday. His tenure will be co-terminous with the Prime Minister’s term or continue until further orders.
Das, a 1980-batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, served as RBI Governor for six years, including a three-year extension. He took charge in December 2018 and retired last year. During his tenure, he guided the central bank through major economic challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war.
PK Mishra has been serving as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister since September 11, 2019. Meanwhile, the government has extended the tenure of NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam by one year, starting from February 24, 2025. A retired IAS officer from the 1987 batch, Subrahmanyam was initially appointed as NITI Aayog CEO for a two-year term in February 2023. With this extension, he will remain in the role until February 24, 2026.
