Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government transferred several senior IAS officers on 2 October 2024. An order issued by Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam detailed the changes. Lakhoni, IAS, previously Additional Chief Secretary and Chairman and Managing Director of TNEB and Tangedco, has been appointed as Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Revenue Administration and Disaster Management. K. Nanthakumar, IAS, formerly Secretary to the Government, Human Resources Management Department, will take over as Chairman and Managing Director of TNEB and Tangedco, succeeding Lakhoni.
Dr. Gopal, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government in the Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Fisheries, and Fishermen Welfare Department, has been reassigned as Additional Chief Secretary to the Higher Education Department, replacing Pradeep Yadav, IAS. Yadav has been designated as Additional Chief Secretary and Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
E. Sundaravalli, IAS, formerly Commissioner of Employment and Training, has been transferred to the role of Commissioner of Collegiate Education, taking over from S. Karmegam, IAS. B. Vishnu Chandran, IAS, will replace Sundaravalli as Joint Secretary to the Government in the Public Department.
V. Amuthavalli, IAS, previously Commissioner of Social Welfare, is now Secretary to the Handlooms, Handicrafts, Textiles, and Khadi Department, replacing Dharmendra Pratap Yadav, IAS. R. Lilly, IAS, will succeed Amuthavalli as Special Secretary to the Transport Department.
R. Lalitha, IAS, has been moved from her position as Additional Commissioner (Revenue and Finance) at the Greater Chennai Corporation to become Director of Textiles, a post previously held by Dharmendra Yadav.
Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS, who served as Commissioner of the Corporation of Tiruppur, has been appointed as Deputy Secretary to the Government in the Public Department, replacing B. Vishnu Chandran, IAS. He will also function as Officer on Special Duty in the Office of the Chief Secretary.
Satyabrata Sahoo, IAS, currently Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and Principal Secretary to the Public (Elections) Department, will assume additional responsibility as Additional Chief Secretary to the Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Fisheries, and Fishermen Welfare Department in place of Dr. Gopal until further orders. This decision has raised concerns about a potential conflict of interest; however, government sources indicate that there have been precedents, including a similar arrangement in 2018.
C. Vijayaraj Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes, and Minorities Welfare Department, will temporarily take over as Secretary to the Human Resources Management Department in place of K. Nanthakumar, IAS, until further notice.
Dharmendra Yadav, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Handlooms, Handicrafts, Textiles, and Khadi Department, will serve as Principal Secretary and Chairman and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation Ltd.
S. Swarna, IAS, who was the Principal Secretary and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation Ltd, has been appointed as Principal Secretary and State Project Director of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
The services of M. Birathiviraj, IAS, Deputy Secretary to the Government in the Finance Department, have been allocated to the Greater Chennai Corporation for the role of Deputy Commissioner (Revenue and Finance), replacing R. Lalitha.
Additionally, the services of J. Jayakanthan, IAS, formerly Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise, have been assigned to the Tamil Nadu Watershed Development Agency for the position of Vice Chairperson and Managing Director.
