NTPC gears up to meet increasing power demand

New Delhi: India’s leading public sector power generation company – NTPC -- is making all efforts to meet electricity demand as per the grid requirement. The power generation from NTPC group stations has registered a 23 per cent growth as compared to the previous year.

Under flexible utilization of coal policy, NTPC is arranging coal at the stations where the stock position is critical. It is continuously coordinating with Coal India and Railways for augmenting coal supply at critical stations and diverting rakes wherever required. It has augmented 2.7 lakh MT import coal left out from the contracts placed earlier.

Meanwhile, NTPC has said that it is supplying power to Bihar as per the schedule provided by various stations of NTPC and its JVs. During the fortnight from 14.08.2021 to 28.08.2021, on an average, NTPC has supplied around 73 MU power on daily basis to Bihar, which constitutes around 62 per cent of the total consumption of Bihar during the same period.

The peak demand months for FY 2021-22, as declared by Eastern Region Power Committee, at the beginning of the year were April, May and June. Accordingly, overhauling in some units was planned during this period to align with the low demand period. These units will gradually be taken back in service. /BI/
