Bhubaneshwar: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a major coal-producing company in India, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide support to the New Rampela ME School in Sambalpur district, Odisha.
The agreement was signed by the General Manager (CSR) of MCL and the District Education Officer, Sambalpur, as part of MCL's ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. Present at the event were Coal India Limited’s Director (P&IR) Vinay Ranjan, along with MCL’s senior leadership, including Director (Personnel) Keshav Rao, Director (Technical/Operations) Jugal K Borah, Director (Finance) AK Behura, and Director (Tech/P&P) AS Bapat.
As part of the CSR initiative, MCL will allocate Rs 50 lakh to construct four new classrooms at the New Rampela ME School, which has been serving the local community since 1958-59. The school currently educates 500 students, including 130 from scheduled castes and 148 from scheduled tribes.
Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, headquartered in Sambalpur, was established in 1992 after being carved out of South Eastern Coalfields Limited. It is one of the eight subsidiaries of Coal India Limited and operates coal mines across Odisha. This initiative reflects MCL's strong commitment to supporting education and community development in the region. /BI
