New Delhi: Tata Steel Foundation, a subsidiary of Tata Steel Limited, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP).
The MoU aims to establish a robust learning ecosystem for organizations and individuals dedicated to working with Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in India. The agreement has been signed for a period of one year by Sourav Roy, CEO of Tata Steel Foundation, and Arman Ali, Executive Director of NCPEDP.
As part of this collaboration, both the entities will work together to organize a national annual seminar focused on rural disability, addressing key aspects such as livelihood, health, access to education, rural innovation, and delivery of services.
Additionally, the partnership will initiate at least two pilot projects in rural Jharkhand and Odisha, focusing on the formation, training, and strengthening of Disabled Persons' Organizations (DPOs).
The MoU also encompasses research-based publications that will shed light on the challenges faced by PWDs in rural areas, emphasizing the linkages to existing schemes and the delivery of services outlined in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPWD Act).
Arman Ali, Executive Director of NCPEDP, said that true policy reforms can only be effective when they reach the grassroots level. He commended the work of the Sabal Initiative, which has been actively involved in empowering people with disabilities on the ground.
Through this partnership, Ali looks forward to identifying individuals with disabilities, enhancing their capacities as disability rights' advocates, and fostering collaborations with regional-level governments and stakeholders.
Sourav Roy, CEO, Tata Steel Foundation, acknowledged the dedication of the Sabal Initiative, under the Foundation's umbrella, in bringing together communities, civil society, companies, and public systems to support persons with disabilities in their pursuit of dignity and ability.
Roy expressed enthusiasm about the shared ethos between NCPEDP and Sabal, and the possibilities that this collaboration could unlock. By joining forces, Tata Steel Foundation and NCPEDP aim to enhance the support system for persons with disabilities and promote inclusivity and equality across India. /BI/
