Clarification on New Delhi Railway Station redevelopment: No shutdown planned

New Delhi: Recent social media rumors and some media reports have claimed that the New Delhi Railway Station (NDRS) will be closed by the end of the year for redevelopment. However, the Ministry of Railways has clarified that these reports are false and that NDRS will not be shut down.

The Ministry stated, "New Delhi Railway Station will never be shut down." It explained that while redevelopment work is ongoing, it will only involve the diversion or regulation of some train services as necessary. These changes will be communicated to the public well in advance to minimize disruption.

The confusion arose from reports suggesting that trains would be temporarily relocated to nearby stations, including Anand Vihar, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Delhi Cantt, and Sarai Rohilla. While some train diversions may occur, the station itself will remain operational.

This redevelopment is part of the Union government’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to transform 1,318 railway stations across India into modern city centers. This includes several stations in the Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) such as Delhi Cantonment, Anand Vihar, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad.

In conclusion, passengers can rest assured that New Delhi Railway Station will continue to operate during its redevelopment, with any necessary train diversions being announced ahead of time. /BI/
