New Delhi: Peoples' Foundation, a Delhi-NCR based social trust working in the field of holistic health, in collaboration with the All India Institute of Ayurveda, Government of India, New Delhi, recently organised an Ayurveda-based mega health camp and medicine distribution drive in Central Jail No. 3, Tihar.
The day-long camp, held for extensive health check-ups and free medicine distribution for inmates and staff, was inaugurated by SBK Singh, IPS, Director General of Prisons, Delhi. Before opening the camp, the DG also inaugurated Ausadhi Udayan, a garden of medicinal plants arranged by jail authorities and AIIA.
Speaking on the occasion, the DG said that Ayurveda was best suited to the overall maintenance of health and lifestyle disorders without any side effects. He praised the joint initiative of AIIA and Peoples' Foundation, and Pramod Gupta, superintendent of Jail No. 3, for organising such a noble initiative for the welfare of inmates. Pankaj Kumar, IAS, AIG (Prisons), and DIG Kuldeep Singh were also present during the inauguration ceremony.

V N Jha, President of Peoples' Foundation, said that their organisation was committed to spreading the benefits and message of Ayurveda to larger sections of Indian society. Peoples' Foundation has been organising health camps in Tihar Jail for the last four years.
For this camp, AIIA deployed a large contingent of doctors, paramedics and pharmacists. The AIIA team was led by Dr Rama Kant Yadav, Associate Professor, Dr Ankur Tripathi and Dr A Dedge. Under their guidance, thirteen postgraduate scholars and junior doctors examined patients for six hours in two shifts.

A large pharmacy was set up and managed by the staff of AIIA, volunteers and coordinators of Peoples' Foundation. A total of 360 patients with various lifestyle disorders and other health issues were examined. They were prescribed and given free medicines for 15–30 days.
The camp concluded in the evening with the contingent from AIIA and Peoples' Foundation being honoured with mementoes. Pramod Gupta, superintendent of Jail No. 3, delivered a vote of thanks.
