“India is a huge country and one of the most populous nations of the world. It has done a remarkable job in addressing people’s health concerns over the years by making multiple enabling interventions. We are keen to be an active partner in providing the best of technology driven medical services in India,” said Krista Donaldson, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Equalize Health, in an exclusive conversation with Bureaucrats India.
“Our journey in India so far has been quite good. Our tele mentoring initiative is doing quite well in Chhattisgarh. We are looking to expand our manufacturing footprint in India and are actively seeking collaboration opportunities with local companies. Response from the stakeholders has been quite encouraging. We wish to make the use of medical technology more comprehensive and wide in India,” added Donaldson.
She said that Equalize Health believes in a world “where we all have access to world-class medical treatment, no matter where we live. Currently, we are focused on designing affordable, world-class medical technology that closes the biggest health equity gaps for mothers and newborns living in the world’s toughest situations.”
Admitting that maternal health remains a global issue and a serious challenge in the populous and poor countries where infant mortality rates are also on a higher side, she said that mothers are the foundation for a healthier society and babies are the key to unlocking a healthier future for us all. “Affordable, ethical and quality healthcare is the need of the hour,” she said.
Donaldson said that Equalize Health works with a 5-pronged approach in delivering health services – identify, develop, distribute, support and measure! “The use of medical technology is of paramount importance. Covid-19 pandemic has made us realize the importance of telemedicine and tele mentoring. Ecosystem remains a serious bottleneck but efforts are being made as well to remove such bottlenecks,” she said.
In reply to a question, she said that India is quite well in addressing its challenges and grabbing opportunities in treating sick mothers and newborns. She also praised India’s flagship Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance scheme for 500 million citizens. “It is a good initiative indeed,” she said. /BI/
