India’s agri changemakers to be honoured on national stage in Delhi

New Delhi: Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, the 2nd Sustainable Agriculture Summit & Awards is set to take place on August 7 in New Delhi. Organised by Sustainability Matters and IndiAgri, this year's theme, ‘Krishi 2047: Climate-Ready Farming, Future-Ready Bharat’, underscores the urgency of driving climate-smart innovation in Indian agriculture. The summit will bring together key stakeholders including policymakers, scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs, government agencies, corporates, and progressive farmers to chart pathways for sustainable, future-focused farming.

A key highlight will be the prestigious national awards recognising excellence across 33 categories, celebrating individuals, organisations, institutions, government bodies, and farming communities that are shaping the future of Indian agriculture. Each category may feature multiple winners, based on merit and jury recommendations. Nominations are pouring in not only from agri-institutions but also from district administrations and bureaucrats who have led transformative agri-initiatives on the ground.

Among the eminent jury and expert panel are: Dr CD Mayee, Ex-Agriculture Commissioner, GoI; Dr Shreeranjan, IAS (Retd), Former ACS, Govt of Meghalaya; Dr Jayadev Sarangi, IAS (Retd), Former Secretary, Govt of Delhi/Goa; Shri RK Sapra, IFS (Retd), Former MD, Haryana Forest Development Corporation; Dr Jay G Varshney, Former Director, DWR, ICAR, Govt of India; Dr Siba P Mohanty, Managing Director, Hindustan Urvarak Rasayan Limited, HURL; Dr KC Ravi, Chief Sustainability Officer, Syngenta India Limited; Shri Ramesh Singh, Regional Director, CARE Asia; Dr Vimala Prakash, Head R&D, IPL Biologicals; and Shri Kishore Jaiswal, NITI Convener, National Farmers Empowerment Initiative.

Dr Navneet Anand, Executive Director of Sustainability Matters, said, “The growing impact of global warming and climate change on agriculture can no longer be ignored. Indian agriculture faces several pressing challenges, and the first step is to recognise and address them. Many individuals and organisations are already doing commendable work at their own level. Highlighting such efforts and positioning these changemakers as role models is vital. The awards across 33 categories aim to honour those redefining Indian agriculture, their recognition will inspire many more in the field.”

After the well-received inaugural edition of the Sustainable Agriculture Summit & Awards on August 7, 2024, followed by regional dialogues in Bhopal, Chandigarh, and Nagpur, the second edition returns with a broader vision to celebrate impactful agri-initiatives and spotlight scalable solutions. Applications across 33 award categories remain open till July 25. For details and submissions, visit sustainabilitymatters.in or write to info@thegreymatters.in.
