New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), South Zone, has installed a plastic bottle crushing machine at Atmaram Sanatan Dharam College as part of its drive to strengthen sustainable waste management practices. The initiative was undertaken in collaboration with Coca-Cola India through its Corporate Social Responsibility programme and facilitated by environmental group Ecowings.
The machine has been introduced to promote responsible disposal of plastic bottles within the campus, ensuring that recyclable material is collected and processed effectively. MCD officials said such efforts are essential to counter the growing issue of single-use plastic while also encouraging eco-friendly practices among students.
The college administration welcomed the initiative, noting that students will gain exposure to practical ways of contributing to sustainability. Alongside the launch, biodegradable pots made from cow dung were distributed to faculty members. MCD representatives said these symbolic measures highlight the need for eco-sensitive alternatives and serve as a reminder to reduce reliance on plastic.
The civic body has confirmed that more bottle crushing machines will be set up in educational institutions across Delhi as part of its plan to build a cleaner and greener city.
