New Delhi: Starting today, June 27, advertisers on X (formerly Twitter) can no longer sneak hashtags into their sponsored posts. Elon Musk has officially declared them an 'esthetic nightmare,' banishing them from all paid content in his latest campaign to tidy up your timeline.
Whether it's a shiny video, a bold carousel, or a plain text promo, if it has a hashtag, it won’t make the cut. Brands now face a new world - one without #NewLaunch or #BigSale to fall back on.

But fret not, organic users! You can still sprinkle a couple of hashtags in your posts - Grok, X’s resident AI, actually recommends it. Just keep it tasteful. No one likes a spammy tag-fest.
And there’s more: X will now charge advertisers based on vertical screen space. The taller the ad, the deeper your pockets need to be. So if your ad takes over the whole screen, prepare to pay up.
With hashtags out and screen size costs in, Musk’s X is betting on sleeker, smarter, less shouty ads. For brands, it’s time to get creative - or risk disappearing into the scroll.
